Llantos 1492

When

7:30 to 10 p.m., Jan. 30, 2019

Scenes from Llantos 1492, the world’s first famenco opera, by Israeli guitarist and composer Adam del Monte, will be presented in a piano and guitar reduction with Shana Blake Hill, soprano; Gabriel Manro & Roberto Perlas Gómez, baritones; Clara Rodríguez & José Cortés, flamenco voices; Daniel Helfgot, narrator; Mercedes Juan Musotto, piano; Adam del Monte, guitar and Kassandra Kochochis, cajon..

As its musical core, Llantos utilizes the rhythms and forms of flamenco–the national music of Spain–to tell a story set during the Spanish Inquisition, a story about the persistance and triumph of identity in a time of intolerance. It is the protagonists’ “Llantos,” their deep lament, that forms the emotional basis for the opera.
